Direct analysis of NP swabs for viruses, bacteria and host biomarkers
There are simply too many viruses to identify the cause of an infection with conventional diagnostic technolo-gies in a rapid and cost-acceptable fashion. Nanopore sequencing will allow development of a simple process enabling identification of the causative agent of a viral infection without preconceived notions about the virus identity, and is an ideal strategy to identify emerging viruses. Nanopore sequencing allows simultaneous de-termination of complicating secondary bacterial co-infections directly from a single nasopharyngeal swab. Our technology is also capable of measuring RNA host response biomarkers associated with infection simultaneously from the same specimen.
